God, we pray for people who work in shops,
Sitting
or standing at the checkouts,
Passing the barcodes through the reader
All
the time, all the time,
Stacking shelves, serving meat,
Walking the
floor and having to decide what to do
With the shoplifter who has nothing,
Putting
on a bit of class at the perfume counter,
Humping potatoes,
Sitting in a
Post Office in a Scottish island in the rain,
Waiting for a customer.
God
bless them all with happiness, good hours and pay,
And help them find the
humanity in their work.

Father God, we pray for all shop workers. In their
act of serving us they remind us of Christ , who came to us as a servant. We
pray that each of them may become aware of His Spirit acting through them.
We
pray for the relationships between management and staff. May the pressure of
corporate goals never override the compassionate concern for individuals'
circumstances.
In the continuing trend of customers moving from town
centre shopping to outlet malls, help those workers who are affected to cope
with the change, particularly those who might be made redundant or relocated.
In the Name of Jesus, our Servant King. Amen.
